Baby Crafts!

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Now that I have completed my baby crafts for this pregnancy, here is a look at some of them.

This first one I cannot take credit for.  My mom sewed a bumper pad for Isabella’s crib.  The fabric is so cute- it’s like a pastel animal circus theme on the inside and a stripe on the outside.

Inside the Bumper Pad

Here is a view of the outside of the crib.  It’s kind of hard to see the bumper pad with the rails, but it is a lime green/pink stripe fabric that is echoed on the hem of the crib skirt.  My mom also made the crib skirt (and a window treatment not pictured).   Bella and I are so lucky that my mom made all this for her.  I really didn’t find a crib set in any store that I feel in love with, and my mom wanted it to be perfect- so she created the perfect crib set.

Next we have some of my embroidery projects.  I made her 2 onsies and 2 burp clothes. My favorites are the burp clothes.

Bella’s Onsies and Burp Clothes

I made Bella a headband by taking the bow off of an old one and putting a felt peony on instead.  I got the pattern for the peony here.

Bella wasn’t the only one getting handmade baby crafts. Her new cousins also got some. Here is a onsie and burp clothes I made for Cooper. Cooper will be about a month younger than Bella.

And Bella’s cousin Rhodes also got a onsie and burp clothes.  Rhodes will be just a few weeks older than Bella.

I’m excited that Bella will have cousins so close to her in age.  Even though they’re both boys, I think it’ll be good for her to grow up with them.  They will be in the same grade in school, their birthday parties will be one after the other, and most importantly I’ll have someone to talk to when they are going through trouble phases together.

Felt Pacifier Clip

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

This weekend my crafting projects continued with a pacifier clip.  Isn’t it cute?  To make it I first followed this tutorial for the string/clip part.  But just the ribbon alone wasn’t enough.  I wanted it to be more special.  I saw this cute felt pacifier clip on etsy and decided that I would make one.  The cupcake part was easy.  I just cut out felt in the cupcake shape and embroidered the little trim details.  The hardest part was deciding how I would attach the felt cupcake to the metal clip.  I ended up using foam as a backing to make the cupcake sturdy then used embellishment glue to glue the metal clip to the foam backing.  I don’t love the foam, but I haven’t come up with a better way to do it yet.  I’ll keep thinking and probably try a couple more paci-clips before it’s over.

I also sewed a flannel swaddeling blanket this weekend and made some more headway on my other embroidering projects.  I really need to finish one project before I start 10 news ones…oh well.  Pictures of those projects are coming soon.

Baby Embroidery

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Recently I got inspired by the beautiful embroidery over at kennedy & friends.  I decided I wanted to start embroidering lovely little things made especially for isabella.  I love the fact that they are made with love and completely unique.  I decided to start with some burp cloths.
bella birdI got the pattern for this cute little bird from craft pudding.

I am currently working on this little birdie (pattern from doc-e-doe):

After these are done my next project is a couple of plain onsies that I want to make extra-special.  I have just fallen in love with embroidering.  It’s completely relaxing and takes my mind off of the worries of pregnancy.  Actually I think pregnancy is just about one of the most perfect times to take up embroidery.  My husband keeps calling it “crocheting” and it really irks me.  He thinks I’m turning into a grandmother…
