Saturday, February 6th, 2010Nursery Progress
Thursday, November 19th, 2009The nursery is slowly progressing. Every weekend one more project gets completed and the nursery gets one step closer.
A few weekends ago I hung these pink puffs in the corner. I got them from Michaels; they are martha stewart crafts.

My mom sewed some modified roman shades as curtains. I haven’t finished putting them up entirely because the bottom is supposed to have a bit of a gather. I was going for something slightly softer than the crisp roman shade, but definitely not poofy and overly girlie. There is also a valence that will go on top, but my mom hasn’t finished that yet.

Then last weekend I hung the collector’s shelf we got from Pottery Barn kids above a small shelving unit that my mother in law found at a garage sale. It was in perfect shape, and fits perfectly on this wall. You can see above the shelves 3 pieces of white paper. Those are the placeholders for prints I’m still deciding on.

Now let’s see what will be the next project for this upcoming weekend, hmmm….
The Nursery will be Ready Long Before I am
Friday, October 30th, 2009The Nursery is slowly coming together. I ordered new knobs for the dresser and they came in yesterday. Do you think it makes the dresser more polished?

My next step is to decide on the wall decorations. Here are some of my favorite prints from Etsy.
It’s so hard to decide which ones to get. They are all adorable. It also doesn’t help that each is a different size, so an arrangement with multiples might be tricky. Plus I only have one wall left to decorate.
I just love nursery decorating. Definitely my favorite room in the entire house to decorate. Minnie Pearl couldn’t agree more. The nursery is now her most favorite room and she just loves all the baby stuff.
New Purchases
Tuesday, October 20th, 2009Last weekend we went on a small baby-moon of sorts and did some baby shopping. Here are a few of the new purchases…
Pottery Barn Kids. By far my favorite place we visited. I wish there was one closer to my house…but oh the money I could spend.

Beautiful Butterfly Knobs
Ikea. Another place I love. Not quite as cute, but very practical.
Antilop High Chair, toys, storage, and safety supplies.
The Container Store. Got cute pink and green containers and storage options for the closet. I’ve never been so excited to get organized!!
And for myself I bought this cute dress on sale at a pea in the pod. It’s so soft and comfy.

Nursery Inspiration
Friday, October 9th, 2009Here are a few of my favorite rooms that have inspired me…
A Sweet Vintage Room – I liked the colors used here. I also love the vintage planters used to hold the cotton balls. I like the hand made touches as well.
the Pure Design Nursery – I ended up using the Celadon Green color used in this room for my nursery. I also love the use of cute, quirky stuffed animals for decoration.
Scarlet Serena & Lily Collection – I really love the color combo here. The fabrics I am going to use are similar to these and I love the pleated bed skirt with pink in the pleats.

The Dresser that Caused a Meltdown
Thursday, October 1st, 2009I purchased the baby’ dresser!! At first I thought I was going to go with this one from Wal-mart. But then I found this one at JCPenney for only $189! I couldn’t pass up a price like that.

It’s not quite as nice as the Canopy one, but it’s $100 cheaper, smaller, and with some new knobs I think it’ll be great.
Of course as soon as it came in I had to put it together. I worked on it from 5:30 to 9:30 at night. At about 9:30 I thought I was done and proudly tried to put the first drawer in. But it wouldn’t fit! I tried several different angels and my husband tried brute force, but it was obvious something was wrong. I had a complete meltdown and wanted to cry. My bad luck with instructions had struck again! First the crib was missing a page of instructions. Now the dresser instructions told me to screw in all the rails UPSIDE DOWN!!! Once I read the JCPenney reviews of the dresser I realized everyone else had this problem as well. But after 2 days and much frustration the dresser did get assembled and I love it.
The Crib Has Arrived
Monday, August 17th, 2009We got our crib today! I didn’t plan on putting it together yet, but we wanted to check to make sure it wasn’t scratched or dented. When we opened the box to check it, we realized it would be impossible without taking out each piece from the 50 square feet of styrofoam and foam wrapping. So I ended up deciding we might as well put it together tonight to be sure everything was okay with it. We pulled everything out of the box and here is the heaping mound of packaging that packed 4 pieces of wood.

We got through step one with no problem. Then the fun began. I kept reading and re-reading the next page. I just didn’t get it. Then my father-in-law got his glasses out of the truck so he could read it. We looked over the instructions, re-read the first page and then the next page. It still didn’t make sense. They wanted you to take the mattress spring and attach it to the already assembled crib…but the crib was still just flat pieces of wood laying on the floor. Finally my father-in-law saw the obvious that had been staring me in the face for the past fifteen minutes. The instructions were missing a page. See for your self.

Notice anything funny? Step 1…Step 3…Step 3…Step 4. We had no instructions on actually putting together the CRIB. The meat of the instructions. I thought this was disasterous. I don’t do anything without the instructions. So I went searching the web for instructions but found none. I started desperately looking for a phone number to Baby Cache to frantically call demanding Step 2. While I was off searching and searching my husband and father-in-law had put together the crib sans instructions. And there were no parts left over, the crib was square, it stood on it’s own and was actually very sturdy. Amazing!

Baby Shopping
Monday, August 17th, 2009
I am so excited about my first baby purchase. I bought this bassinet at a garage sale last weekend for $20. The Bassinet looks new and very clean.
As you can see, Minnie is very interested in it. Both her and Chi Chi couldn’t stop smelling it when I brought it home. Then Minnie discovered the mobile. She wanted to pull the teddy bears off and keep them for herself. I can only imagine what these crazy dogs will do when we bring home an actual baby…
In other baby shopping news we bought a crib this weekend!!! My father-in-law is delivering it today and I cannot wait for it to get here. I don’t know why I can’t wait. It’s not like I’m going to take it out of the box yet. It’s not like I can actually use the thing yet. I guess I’ll just stare in amazement at it for the next few weeks. I find myself opening the door to the soon-to-be nursery a couple times a day just to look at the bassinet. Somehow baby stuff makes it feel real. There really is a baby on the way, it even has stuff accumulating in a room. Now that’s proof. Hard evidence.

The crib is made by Baby Cache, a subsidiary of Munire. It got an “A” from Baby Bargains. Baby Bargains is my new bible. I love it. The crib also got good reviews here. My mother hates the crib. She thinks its to cold or sterile or something along those lines. I think it’s the clean modern lines that bother her. But I love them. Apparently the crib is so exciting it makes me loose my ability to form complex sentences when talking about it… scary.
We haven’t bought a dresser to go with the crib yet. I just didn’t like the one that is sold with it. It has one of those side door cabinets that I find all together useless.

So I think we are going with a desser from the Walmart Canopy line instead. I’ve read great reviews about the Canopy line. I think I’ll get it and check it out. The great thing is that if I don’t like it Walmart takes back anything.

I think the dresser balances out the mod style of the crib with a bit of classic and I like the fact that it isn’t matchy-matchy.
Notes on Nurseries
Monday, May 18th, 2009
Last night I happened to catch an episode of Pure Design on HGTV. In this episode Samantha created a safe, eco-friendly nursery for a hip & stylish expecting couple. I found it very inspiring. I know that it’s meant to be a baby’s room, but I just really don’t care for all the usual over-the-top kiddie looking decor. I found this room to be a nice balance between stylish enough for the adult parents to love and fun/funky enough to make a great baby room.
My Favorite Parts of the Room:
- Great celadon color on the walls. I just love this color. Our spare room (one day nursery) is actually already painted a color close to this. {She used 2028-60 Celadon Green from Bejamin Moore}
- I love the rocker used in the room. I can’t find exactly what rocker was used in this room, but the lines of it are very similar to the Luca Glider. I love the chocolate option but at $945 I would never buy it…I could buy a whole new sofa with that kind of money.
- I liked the way they used some inexpensive items and re-purposed items. The crib is the Gulliver crib from Ikea (only $100) and the changing table was re-purposed from a dresser they already had. Even though these items were cheap they looked very stylish in the room.
- Great handmade toys/animals from miru’s friends
- The organic bedding and mattress came from Baby on the Hip (although cute, it’s a little expensive for my taste).
- Hand made items like the cut out animals glued onto the wall. (She used wrapping paper and wallpaper to cut out animal shapes, then children’s glue to adhere them to the wall). I also liked the hand made mobile. A simple and colorful mobile was made using 2 dowel rods and some small chinese lanterns.
